Things to consider when choosing a groomer include :
How long have they been grooming and how long have they done business in your area?
What are their qualifications? Although it shouldn't be a deal breaker, are they certified by NDGAA (National Dog Groomers Association of America) or other reputable organization?
Do the groomers have any restrictions for the breeds of dog they'll work with?
Is there a waiting list? If there is, you may want to consider walking in without an appointment. A lot of facilities have additional grooming staff on hand for busy days, or assistants who may have nothing better to do. It never hurts to investigate.
While you're there, check out their facilities, and don't be afraid to ask prying questions. Of course you have the right to know, and the info goes a long way toward finding a groomer that's right for you and your pet.
What method does the groomer use for drying your pet after grooming? Do they use a cage dryer, and if they do, is a pet care professional watching your dog at all times?
Do they sedate the dogs? Is there a dedicated staff member for this, and what are their qualifications/proffessional background?
Who looks after your pet while they're not being groomed? How long is the expected turn-around?
If there's an emergency or your dog is injured, is there a veterinarian on call? If not, what first-aid training do the grooming staff have?
How thorough are their records? Do they keep track of your visits and will they remember you the next time? This helps groomers build a relationship with you and your pet, while maintaining a professional business atmosphere.
These are just a few things to consider, but when taken into account, you'll find your dog grooming experience is safe and satisfying, for both you and your pet.

First of all you should consider asking your veterinarian. Your vet is an expert and knows the best and most trusted approaches to caring for your pet - that's why he makes the big bucks. But you may also want to consider asking your friends and family as well, especially if they're pet owners like you, who understand your concern for your dog.
Once you have a promising referral, there are several questions to ask before you ever schedule an appointment with a dog groomer or caregiver.
